                                   2010 BRVHA HORSE SHOW RULES

Please read carefully, exhibitors are responsible to abide by them!

You must be a BRVHA member to participate in any show.  Membership is: $10.00/Individual or $20.00/Family.  Memberships expire on Dec. 31. A family is those members living under one roof and under one head of household.

All horses on premises must have proof of 2009 or 2010 negative Coggins and a current rabies vaccination.
All dogs must be on a leash and have a current rabies vaccination.

If, in the opinion of the judge and/or show committee, a horse has a health condition that is a threat to itself or others, it may be asked to leave the grounds and also if a horse appears to be a threat to the safety of its handler/rider or others.

Judges decision is final!   Anyone being discourteous to judge or show management may be asked to leave.

Please refrain from engaging the judge in conversation, until the completion of the show. If you have a question or problem, speak to the show manager, the office or the ring steward. AQHA Horse show rules are generally followed.

If a horse and/or rider falls to the ground, they will be disqualified from placing in that class and may be excused from the ring.

A horse is considered to have fallen when the shoulder and haunch on the same side touch the ground or obstacle and ground; a rider when any part of his/her body touches the ground.

BRVHA recommends that all riders in fence classes and riders 13&U, wear a security fastened ASTM approved helmet with a harness. Parents, guardians and trainers are requested to make themselves familiar with the New York Equestrian Helmet Laws: NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law (Section 1265) and NYS General Business Law (Section 396-dd).

Age of riders in all divisions is as of January 1 of the calendar year. Junior Horse classes are open to horses 5 years and under, Senior Horse is 6 years and over.  Age is determined on the basis of a calendar year starting January 1st of the year foaled.

Effective in 2010, Leadliners will pay a class fee and be required to be members. There is no office fee.

They will be eligible for Leadline year-end awards. Leadliners may not enter any other classes.

Walk Trot/Jog may show either English or Western. W-T is for beginner riders (any age) that are not able to safely canter/lope in a group. W-T is not for experienced riders on a green horse.  W-T may not enter any class that is not W-T, except halter.

Once a W-T rider has won a high point or reserve high point end-of-year BRVHA award, they will no longer be eligible for W-T classes, with the exception of riders that are 9 years of age and younger.

The Novice division is for riders who are beginners in the show ring or who have limited experience in showing. If a rider has won a high point or reserve high point end-of-year BRVHA award, in any division, except Walk Trot or Novice, they will not be eligible to compete in the Novice division.  A novice will be allowed to remain in the Novice Division, until they win a high point or reserve high point, end-of-year BRVHA award, for a second time. Novice riders may enter other divisions.

In the Hunter Division you must jump a course of fences (class #11 or #12) to be eligible for a Championship. Every fence class

(#9-12) needs at least 2 entries or they may be cancelled.

Points are figured on a horse/rider combination and awarded as follows: 1st-6 points, 2nd-5, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th –1.

If less than 6 entries points will be reduced accordingly. Highest placing in Equitation class or the Halter class in Junior Horse Division will break division ties. Ties for end of year awards will first be broken based on the most shows attended and secondly on the highest placing in Equitation/Halter classes. Members must participate in 2 shows to be considered for EOY Awards.

The Junior Horse and Novice divisions will not count towards the EOD or EOY Overall High Point award.

Showmanship will be judged and pointed by type of Attire and not double pointed.

Please plan ahead and notify show office announcer of any tack changes, be as prompt as possible.

Each horse/rider combination MUST have a separate number & MUST wear the same number all year.

Classes MUST be Added at least 2 classes prior to start of class!  If you do Drop, you may still have to pay for the class.
